Window Film Information

Installation side is a product and project decision. An exterior product is not simply an interior film installed outdoors, and an interior product should not be moved outside unless the manufacturer specifically permits it.

Interior installation

  • The film is installed on the room-facing surface of the applicable pane.
  • Interior access, furnishings, frames, coatings, and occupant schedules can affect installation planning.

Exterior installation

  • The film and its edges are exposed to weather, washing, windborne material, and direct exterior access.
  • The manufacturer may require exterior-rated construction, specific sealants, edge sealing, inspection, and maintenance.

Why installation side changes

  • Glass construction, coating location, solar absorption, access, roof or facade geometry, and the desired performance can affect the recommended side.
  • Follow the current manufacturer source for the exact product and glazing.

Warranty and maintenance

  • Interior and exterior coverage periods commonly differ.
  • Document product code, installation side, sealant or edge treatment, installation date, and care instructions.
